You’re really showing where your loyalties lie when you weigh down if you should take out Delgado in Starfield or pass on Mathis’s offer. In the United Colonies quest line in Starfield, you’ll eventually join the Crimson Fleet. Your first mission involves infiltrating The Lock, a former prison with Delgado, the fleet’s leader, and Mathis, a fellow recruit. The goal is twofold: to test your pirate skills and to hunt for Kryx’s Legacy, a treasure left by the Crimson Fleet’s founder, Jaspen Kryx, over a century ago. But things get dicey when Mathis sees a chance to eliminate Delgado and enlists your aid in this treacherous scheme.

Should You Side with Mathis and Take Out Delgado in Starfield?

Mathis will reach out to you and present you with two choices: say, “I’m listening,” or reply that you’re “not betraying Delgado.” All other dialogue choices gather more information on the subject matter. If inquired, Mathis reveals that he believes this is the best time to take Delgado out because he’s essentially at his weakest position. Still, these two dialogue options seem to be up to you.

Nothing will happen if you choose to take out Delgado in Starfield right now. Mathis will dismiss the assassination attempt completely. In fact, you can’t even rat him out to Delgado. Basically, there are no consequences to this choice, and Delgado can’t be turned into an assassination target at this point in time.

How To Join the Crimson Fleet in Starfield

That doesn’t mean, however, that there won’t come a time later in the story when you’ll get a chance to take out Delgado in Starfield and walk out with some pretty cool loot.

How to Take Out Delgado in Starfield

There is a chance to take out Delgado in Starfield at the end of the Crimson Fleet’s questline. The Crimson’s Fleet questline ends with the Legacy’s End, a quest that asks you to take a stance: either you go against the Pirates or side with them.

If you decide to go against them, an epic space fight unfolds, culminating in a final confrontation with Delgado. After taking him out, you get The Tempest, a rare Rifle with Laser Sight, Reflex Sight, and a Large Magazine.

The Tempest rifle makes taking out Delgado in Starfield completely worth it since it’s got high-velocity rounds, which makes it pretty quick. Unless you’re going for an “evil playthrough” in which you plan to become a ruthless space pirate, killing Delgado to get this weapon in the mid-game is the best choice.
