Lies of P is a game with many things we love about Souls games. Despite this, many new systems may take some getting used to, but your adventure will be much more enjoyable once you do. Since there are so many things in the game, we have prepared this article with the best beginner tips and tricks you can have before playing Lies of P. So, without further ado, let’s see what’s in store for us in this world full of killer puppets and other dangers.

Best Beginner Tips and Tricks for Lies of P

We made this list based on what the game does not tell you explicitly, and you learn little by little. Although similar to other games in the genre, you can watch many tutorials anytime; other systems only come to play when you’re in the thick of the moment. With that out of the way, let’s start with the best beginner tips and tricks for Lies of P.

5. Focus on Motivity or Technique

These stats are your usual Strength and Dexterity, respectively, but the game doesn’t tell you that. Instead, you’ll notice some weapons scale differently depending on the stat they have assigned. Like other games of the genre, you’ll see these weapons scale from D to S, the latter being the highest. If you find a weapon with a B scaling in Motivity and a D in Technique, we recommend focusing on that stat, provided you like that weapon. However, there are other ways to change a weapon scaling. Ultimately, it comes down to whether you want to do more damage with weapons or strike fast and keep your distance. You can’t go wrong with either; here, we prefer Technique, as the weapons that scale with this stat look cooler and swing faster.

4. Don’t Hold On to Your Ergo Chunks

Do you remember how Golden Runes worked in Elden Ring? Ergo fragments work the same. For those who don’t know, Ergo is the currency you need to level up, buy stuff, and upgrade weapons. While you can farm it by killing enemies, you’ll also find some chunks and fragments you can use to get Ergo on the spot or sell them at a store to get the amount of Ergo into your pocket. Most people hold on to them for the late parts of the game, but we recommend you use them as you get them. Lies of P relies on the use of many consumable items, and besides that, you’ll need to upgrade your weapons as soon as possible. So, don’t be afraid to spend these items.

3. Try to Pet Spring Whenever You Can

While many games let you pet dogs, this one lets you pet a cat, provided you have what it takes. The resident cat of Hotel Krat in Lies of P is Spring. This orange feline is there not only to brighten your day but to show you how human you are. At first, when you approach him, you’ll see him hiss at you. This means you’re a puppet for him. After going for the ‘human’ choices in certain dialogues, you’ll see him reacting fondly toward you; he’ll let you pet him and show you that Pinocchio is embracing his human side. While not a game-changer mechanic, it helps to understand one of the game’s most hidden mechanics.

2. Save Your Gold Coin Fruit for Star Fragments

Lies of P lets you summon help during certain fights through spirits. To get these spirits to help you, you’ll need Gold Coin Fruit. You’ll get this fruit after beating the Cathedral boss. At first, it might be tempting to spend the fruit on many of the things the Alchemist sells; most give you different uses for your Wishstone. However, the best thing to do is to spend all your Fruit on Star Fragments so you can summon a spirit to help you. Remember to return to the Gold Coin Fruit Tree to gather your fruit and spend it before going into a boss fight.

1. Practice Your Blocking and Parrying Skills

Many Souls games have taught us the delicate art of rolling on the floor like pandas to avoid getting hit. While this technique is good, it doesn’t work well in Lies of P. This game encourages you to play with the Guard Regain mechanic. You’ll lose a small portion of your health whenever you get hit while blocking, but you’ll notice that portion remains as a faded bar. Hitting an enemy back before the faded bar goes away will restore that HP. While you can dodge, it isn’t as fast or safe as blocking. Plus, to dodge faster, you’ll need to invest in the P-Organ and take some specific perks to dodge some of the most dangerous attacks in the game. Again, it is better to learn how to block properly.

And that’s a wrap on the best beginner tips and tricks for Lies of P. The game is quite challenging as it is and having a few aces under your sleeve will make your journey through Krat much easier. Try to apply these tricks in combat, and you’ll soon become the bane of all evil puppets in the game.
