Robert Kirkman Reveals How Long Invincible Might Last

Will it last as long as The Walking Dead?

While promoting the upcoming second season of the superheroic animated Amazon Prime Video series Invincible, co-creator Robert Kirkman revealed that heโ€™s aiming for the show to last at least another six seasons. Season two of the Steven Yeun-led show is set to debut on the streaming service later this year on November 3. The show has already been renewed for a third season, and the second part of the second season is due to come out in early 2024. So, it isnโ€™t a complete surprise that Kirkman believes in the longevity of the animated series.

Invincible, But For How Long?

For anyone who hasnโ€™t read the Invincible comic book series by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley, it ran for 15 years and spanned 144 issues. So, there is plenty of material for the show to pull from to fill up the proposed seasons. Speaking to Polygon Kirkman said, โ€œI think in the seven-to-eight-season range seems like it would be enough.โ€ While there are plenty issues of the comic book, Kirkman also goes on to say that he would like to do completely original episodes, including ones that feature ideas from the cutting room floor.ย

This isnโ€™t surprising as the journey Mark Grayson, aka Invincible, takes in the series isnโ€™t identical to the comic, with Kirkman updating the story, creating a sort of remastered take on his original material. Of course, his estimate doesnโ€™t include specials like the Invincible: Atom Eve special that was released earlier this year. There could easily be a range of specials that document the origins of other characters, which is another idea taken from the comics. With the breadth of characters and the popularity of some, like Omni-Man, the series could go on for quite a long time.ย

You can watch Invincible on Amazon Prime Video.
