Peter Jackson’sย superb Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films will be getting a special release this fall.
All six films will come in one massive 30 disc Blu-ray and DVD collection. The versions of the films included are the extended editions with added scenes and special features. With each film clocking in at roughly three and a half to four hours, there is a lot of content to be had.
The listing was first seen on Amazon. The package was shown and described with an initial price of $800 given. If you think that sounds a little steep, then you’d be right. Because Amazon took down that price soon after and put the pre-order back up sans price. But expect this special collector item to run you a couple hundred dollars at least.
The Lord of the Rings films originally released between 2001 and 2003, with the third film, The Return of the King, winning best picture that year. The series followed Hobbit Frodo Baggins as he traveled wit various companions to destroy the ring of power in Mount Doom to stop the revival of the dark lord Sauron. The Hobbit trilogy came out between 2012 and 2014, telling the story of how the one ring came into the possession of Bilbo Baggins as he journeyed to the Lonely Mountain to steal back the treasure of the dwarfs.
The Lord of the Rings has seen multiple releases, with standard and extended editions coming to VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray. But this is the first time since the conclusion of The Hobbit that all of the journeys through Middle Earth have been collected in one epic package.
The package itself is very nice. The cases for the six films are designed to look like books, with the cases contained in an ornate wooden shelf. The collection is rumored to release on October 4th, 2016.
