Genshin Impact houses tons of allusions to modern pop culture. This includes references to famous celebrities, iconic shows, and even a Monty Python callback or two. Besides being generally hilarious, these moments help cement Genshin as a constantly evolving game that keeps up with modern times. One unexpected inclusion in this realm of celebrity references is none other than Donald Trump. Though this reference seems like an interesting choice, especially considering the controversial nature of the ex-president, this Genshin Impact reference is subtle enough that for most players, it can fly right under their radars.
Genshin Impact Places A Donald Trump Reference In A Prison
In Genshin Impact Version 4.1, players can explore the large prison facility, the Fortress of Meropide. In the Rag ‘n’ Bone shop, players can purchase the book called The Art of Negotiation for 10 coupons. This book triggers the quest Scenes from Life in Meropide: The Art of Negotiation.
As players may have guessed, this Genshin Impact reference calls back to Donald Trump’s book, The Art of the Deal. The most jarring part is seeing a stylized picture of Donald Trump plastered on the cover of the item in the game. Out of anything I ever expected to come to Genshin Impact, an in-universe picture of Donald Trump was not one of them.
The Traveler And Paimon Learn The Art of Negotiation
Based on the descriptions of the Genshin Impact counterpart, it’s fairly easy to see the game’s opinions on not only the book but the person on the cover as well. Throughout this quest, Paimon and the Traveler follow the book’s dubious and unhelpful advice to great comedic effect.
Players on a Reddit post by RollingRED call some of these lines to attention, specifically the lines, “Always speak loudly to make people think you are confident,” and “Now, you might be wondering what this has got to do with negotiation. I can answer that: The most powerful weapon in a negotiation is the truth, and the truth can be manipulated.” While Genshin Impact isn’t known for its biting commentary, seeing the game take a shot at Donald Trump will never not be funny.
Although generally, it’s probably for the best that Genshin Impact stays out of politics, a small reference like this is probably harmless and makes for a great Easter Egg overall. Due to the shady nature of the Fortress of Meropide, a quest like this isn’t too far out of the ordinary, even for those who are unfamiliar with Donald Trump’s novel.
