Pixar is hard at work on the production of Incredibles 2, with the project “actively moving” according to director Brad Bird.
Of course, details surrounding the sequel are being kept under lock and key, with the film still ways out before it’s projected 2019 release.  That being said, the long-awaited sequel is moving forward. “It’s very actively moving, and we’re excited about it,” Bird discussed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “[We’re] trying to take it in some new directions.”
The original Incredibles was released in 2004 to much critical acclaim and equal critical success. The film tells the story of the Parrs, a family of former superheroes and young children who also have powers, as father Bob Parr, formerly Mr. Incredible one of the greatest heroes, cope with a life devoid of excitement and full of the norm.
Brad Bird went on to discuss how the sequel will retain elements of the first, while also changing things up a bit. “I mean, that’s the trick with a sequel. It’s repeating yourself, without repeating yourself.” He went on to emphasis Incredibles 2 will of course have the “same characters”
In an interview with IGN last October, Bird talked about some of the advantages writing a sequel has over the first, such as the kids already aware of their powers limits and capabilities “they already know, so you have to move the story ahead and say, ‘What else can you do?’” Bird goes on to discuss what makes superhero movies interesting “Powers themselves are not that interesting, it’s the people that are interesting and how they react to having those powers,” It will be interesting to see how the Parr family has adjusted now that they have fully embraced their powers.
The Incredibles 2 is currently scheduled for a June 21, 2019, release. Pixar president Jim Morris has publicly stated Incredible 2 will be among the last sequels for Pixar, at least in the current planning. The most recent sequel Pixar released was Finding Dory, which hit theaters earlier this year.
