Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show is going remote once again as Colbert comes down with a case of COVID-19. The news came from the official Late Show Twitter account earlier today as they announced that the show would continue remotely from Stephen Colbert‘s home as the host stayed in quarantine. The announcement reassured fans that Colbert is okay and, thankfully, he’s no stranger to hosting The Late Show from his home.
Stephen Colbert Comes Down With Covid, Hosts ‘Late Show’ From Home
Outside of 2020, this is the third time Covid has affected the airing of The Late Show. The show halted production in April of last year after Colbert contracted COVID-19, then paused again barely a month later. The virus was also responsible for the cancelation of Strike Force 3, a Vegas live show that was meant to star Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, and Jimmy Kimmel before the latter caught COVID and canceled the show.
Thankfully, the production of The Late Show has moved to a remote format until Colbert is safely out of quarantine. Like many other talk shows, The Late Show was filmed out of Stephen Colbert’s home for a few months in 2020. One episode, which aired in March 2020, was filmed in a bubble bath, jokingly dubbed “The Lather Show”. Fans of the show are likely expecting to see a similar energy from Colbert as he moves home again.
As for the trajectory of The Late Show itself, it seems to be continuing on as normal. The show’s remote guests will include Jada Pinkett Smith, whose memoir has made headlines recently, and Rachel Maddow. Ricky Velez, Caroline Polachek, Keegan-Michael Key, and Elle Key will also be making appearances.
Neither Colbert nor The Late Show has announced how he caught COVID-19 or when the show will return to the studio.
