Console players have been patiently waiting for Fallout 4 and Skyrim mods to make their way to the PS4 and Xbox One. Xbox players recently got a chance to mod their games alongside the PC community, but PlayStation players will have to wait quite a bit longer, so it seems.

Fallout 4
The wasteland is about to be a lot less colourful on PS4.

According to Bethesda, the project has been halted due to Sony’s approval process. The tech juggernaut is not giving the Maryland-based developer the go-ahead to release the modding system on the PS4. In a statement released on their blog the company said:

“After months of discussion with Sony, we regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4, Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition.”

Fallout 4
Xbox One and PC players will change Skyrim in new and bizarre ways.

So until Sony approves the system, PS4 owners will just have to make due with the version of Fallout 4 that hit store shelves last year. But it also means that they will miss out on the plethora of mods that will undoubtedly release when Skyrim: Special Edition releases on October 28, 2016.

This isn’t the first time that Sony has blocked cross-platform features. It recently came out that Sony was the only party holding back cross-platform play on games like Rocket League and Gwent. This has painted the company in a negative light, especially when Microsoft has put so much focus on PC and Xbox One cross-play. While these kinds of deals may not bring in much more money for Sony, they would serve to unify player bases and create a more enjoyable ecosystem.
