In most ways, Spider-Man 2 will be a direct upgrade to its predecessor. With new and improved graphics and gameplay, as well as the return of the amazing story, Spider-Man 2 is one of the most anticipated games of this year. However, as more information starts to surface, fans have begun clamoring for the tiniest bits of information that they can use to compare to the original Spider-Man for the PS4. This includes a hilarious detail from the original entry that has become infamous among the community. Due to being an error, the new Spider–Man game has removed this moment between games. Despite removing bugs is generally thought of as a good thing, strangely enough, fans aren’t truly happy that Spider-Man 2 has removed this feature, the “boat people.”
The “Boat People” Have Been Removed
In the original entry before Spider-Man 2, players discovered a peculiar feature when peering off into the environment. There, players saw a boat floating on the river with a few passengers on board. Though this doesn’t seem like anything out of the ordinary at first, once you look a bit closer, it’ll become obvious why the community has made such a big deal about this boat.
Peculiarly, these character models on board are extremely janky, each looking like a polygonal monstrosity straight from the PS1 era. For such a high-budget and gorgeous-looking game, seeing these extremely low-quality NPCs was a bit jarring, yet hilarious, for the majority of the community. Even the developers themselves noticed the hype for these “boat people” and included an Easter Egg in Spider-Man Remastered. In this game, rather than fixing this visual problem, the developers left a note on one of the models that says, “Did you miss us?”
Fans Are Sad To See This Improved Spider-Man 2 Feature
Now, Octorious on Twitter has pointed out that the “boat people” have become one of Spider-Man 2’s removed features. Rather than having the polygonal humans we have grown to know and love, the new release has fully fleshed out the “boat people” NPCs. Logerdoger11 on Reddit expresses their disappointment in a post with the comment, “R.I.P. Boat People…” On top of this, the community chimes in, adding their hope for a “Boat People” Easter Egg somewhere in Spider-Man 2. Whether this is something small, like the post-it note added on the “boat people” in Spider-Man Remastered or their hidden return in a tiny corner of the map, there’s a huge opportunity to keep this joke running in the series.
Overall, although some complained about the low-polygon characters in the past, it’s a bit hard seeing them go. However, with all of Spider-Man 2’s new features, seeing the “boat people” go isn’t the worst thing in the world. Once it releases, it’ll be funny to see what kind of details fans will find in Spider-Man 2 to latch onto. Whether it’s a small visual glitch or an off-putting graphic, there’s bound to be something to see. Who knows, maybe sometime soon, the community will have a new thing to make memes about that’ll help bring the community as a whole closer together.
