Last year, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt won an unfathomable amount of awards after its release, with Game of the Year being constant among them. While its accolades were no surprise to many due to the game’s compelling storytelling and challenging gameplay, one aspect of the game wasn’t entirely required to continue the narrative, yet managed to envelop enough people to warrant its own AAA release.
Gwent has gone from a filler card game in the Witcher 3 to a fully fledged, free to play card game with a closed BETA set for October 25th, 2016 for Windows and Xbox One. Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, will add multiple features to the already established Witcher 3 version.
Developers CD Projekt Red are being extra careful to make sure that the BETA for the upcoming card game will be as polished as possible upon its release. Following the aftermath of server complaints in Titanfall and Battlefield BETA’s, it’s no surprise that CD Projekt Red is taking preemptive action to make sure that Gwent will be playable for the BETA despite possible bugs.
Yesterday, the studio announced “Kill the Servers!”, an event aimed at getting users to stress and possibly overload the hosting backend. The stress test takes place this Friday, 23.09 from 5PM to 9PM CEST and Tuesday, 27.09 from 8PM to 12Am CEST. While playable, the server test will have certain limitations in comparison to the BETA, as deck building functionality will not be enabled. Unfortunately for console players, the test will be PC exclusive; master race rejoice!
CD Projekt Red announced today on their FB and Twitter that codes for the test are available via email submission at https://playgwent.com/en/killtheservers. However, codes are limited and are granted on a first come, first serve basis.
“Kill the Servers!” is not only a unique event but a positive step forward for game developers and consumers in an age full of rushed and broken AAA releases.
