Low-density housing in Cities: Skylines 2 is the first residential building zone you create to start building your city. It’s one of the easiest housing zones to create but is inefficient at holding large numbers of citizens. This is a problem as your city grows and you must build more efficient housing. Your citizens demand low-density housing but building too much is expensive and drains your money. How do you stop low-density demand in Cities: Skylines 2 and is it possible to not worry about it?

It’s nearly impossible to stop low-density demand in Cities: Skylines 2. Your citizens will always request it when they move in. What you can do is reduce the demand and not worry about it. It’s possible to ignore it entirely; there is no requirement saying you must constantly meet demand. But lowering it helps your citizens forget and keep their happiness levels high.

Building medium or high-density housing reduces demand for low-density housing. It won’t happen immediately, but you will see demand shift after some time passes. Your citizens will be satisfied with medium or high-density housing and forget about their initial demands. Some demand will always be present, but it keeps going down as more housing zones are built.

Medium and high-density housing can also solve other issues such as high rent. Just be careful of other concerns as you build more housing. There’s also nothing wrong with adding some low-density housing zones next to high-density buildings. Variation helps maintain land prices while accommodating the desires of citizens as much as possible.

To summarize stopping low-density demand in Cities: Skyline 2:

  • It’s impossible to fully stop demand for anything, as citizens will always request something.
  • You can ignore the increasing demand until you have access to medium or high-density housing.
  • Building medium or high-density housing will reduce the demand for low-density housing.
