IO Interactive is best known for its work on the genre-defining Hitman series, and the studio has been working on a James Bond game for a while now. The game is internally being referred to as Project 007, and the studio has a small update for us after a very long time. The CEO of the company, Hakan Abran, gave an interview to Edge magazine; he said that their aim with Project 007 is to create the “ultimate spycraft fantasy”.
This version of 007 will be completely original, and according to the interview, the vibe will be more like Daniel Craig’s version of the character. IO Interactive has been vocal about how its original 007 will be entirely unique, and the setting suggests it might be more technologically advanced than good old Agent 47.
Project 007: IO Interactive’s Journey From Agent 47 To Agent 007
The developers over at IO Interactive are masters at crafting large playgrounds with an endless number of NPCs and a plethora of paths a player can opt for, even for a single objective. This kind of setting could be ideal for Project 007, as blending in and sneaking around is just as important for the character as shooting up an army of entirely evil villains. Edge magazine said that it seems that gadgets will be a core part of gameplay, and assassinating people won’t be the only objective.
IO Interactive is committed to sticking to the James Bond IP for more than just one game, which should be great news because the titular secret agent hasn’t gotten many games that weren’t movie tie-ins. Although the game’s release is probably still years away, its commitment to becoming a franchise speaks volumes.
Although the studio wasn’t able to give a release date or window, considering how the game has been in development since early 2020 at least, expecting a reveal during The Game Awards or later in 2024 wouldn’t go amiss.
