The subgenre of movies about making movies gets a new blockbuster spin. Universal Pictures has released the official trailer for The Fall Guy, which sees Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt try and fail to keep it professional in this action-packed comedy (seen below). It will be directed by Deadpool and Bullet Train director David Leitch and written by Drew Pearce (Rogue Nation).
Ryan Gosling Is a Stuntman, and Emily Blunt Is a Director in The Fall Guy Trailer
From Universal, the film follows Barbie actor as Colt Seavers, a stuntman on the set of a new blockbuster from director Jody Moreno, played by the Oppenheimer star. When the leading actor, Tomy Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), is missing, Seavers must find him. When he winds up dead, the stuntman must turn into a real action hero to deal with a dangerous criminal organization. He must save the movie and possibly find love with his director in the process.
The trailer for The Fall Guy sees other crew member positions being highlighted beyond Ryan Gosling as a stuntman. It will also star Ted Lasso‘s Hannah Waddingham, Black Panther‘s Winston Duke, Everything Everywhere star Stephanie Hsu, Teresa Palmer (A Discovery of Witches), and Lee Majors, who played the original Colt Seavers in the ’80s series of the same name that the upcoming film is based on.
While the studio is gearing up to promote its big blockbuster with its A-listers and the continued explosive films from Leitch, who was a stuntman before turning to directing, it will have some bumps to get through. Currently, the SAG-AFTRA strike continues, so none of the actors can promote the film when it releases next month. Much of the holdup has been the studios like Universal not wanting to give actors a fair deal, particularly regarding AI restrictions and residuals on streaming services.
The Fall Guy trailer can hold you over if you want to see Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt be cute while fighting bad guys. It will be released in theaters on March 1, 2024.
