Due to its roguelite nature, many players are always looking for ways to find their save file in Risk of Rain Returns, and there are many reasons for it. Some might want to back up their progress in case things go south, while others might want to install a cleared save file to try other survivors or see new unlocked things. Before we begin, it is important to mention this method works only on PCs. Those playing on Nintendo Switch won’t be able to do this and must stick to the console’s saving capabilities. However, if you’re on Windows, here are the steps you must follow to find your Risk of Rain Returns save file:

  1. 1. Find your Steam installation folder.

It’s found inside your hard drive’s Program Files (x86) folder.

  2. 2. Open the Steam folder.

Look for it inside the Program Files (x86) folder.

  3. 3. Click on the “userdata” folder.

    It’s usually the last folder.

  4. 4. Double-click on the numbered folder.

This is your user data. The number of the folder doesn’t matter, as it is your ID. What matters is what’s inside it.

  5. 5. Inside the numbered folder, search for “1337520.”

That’s the game’s ID number. This is unique, and every player has the same. Enter the folder.

  6. 6. Double-click on the “remote” folder to find the save file.

As you can see, there are a few hoops to find the save file of Risk of Rain Returns, but once you have it, you should be good to do as you see fit with it. Drop it into this directory if you want to use a different save file. However, you should always back yours up before making any changes. If you want to return to yours, drop your backup in that folder, and you’re good to go.
