This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

Like a Dragon Gaiden puts protagonist Kiryu on a brand new journey as he erases his name to protect those that he loves. The game takes place after Yakuza 6: The Song of Life and just before Yakuza: Like a Dragon. In the former, the events take place between 2012 and 2016 as Kiryu adventures to find the father of Haruka’s, his adopted daughter, son. The latter puts Ichiban Kasuga in the protagonist’s seat and takes place in 2019, a whole six years after the end of the sixth installment. With all of that information, how old is Kiryu in Like a Dragon Gaiden?

It is somewhat confirmed that Like a Dragon Gaiden takes place in 2018, which would have given Kiryu enough time to build his ties with Daidoji faction. At the end of Yakuza 6, Kiryu was 51 years old, which would make him about 53 years old in Like a Dragon Gaiden two years later.

The events of Like a Dragon Gaiden push the narrative towards the eighth installment in the series, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, which pictures Kiryu with gray hair next to Ichiban. Although Like a Dragon ends in 2019, the games are popular for having a timeframe that is closer to the time of the game’s actual release. Considering this, it’s possible that it will take place in 2022 or 2023, making Kiryu about 57 or 58. That would better explain the sudden shift in his hairdo when he has had the same black updo for nearly forty years. Regardless, he looks great as an older man who is sure to beat down anyone who does his friends wrong.

Like a Dragon Gaiden is available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
