Risk of Rain Returns’ different characters make for great replayability but don’t forget about the Providence Trials. These challenges make great side content and a source of rewards. But sometimes, you can find yourself in a dead end. Having a relatively obvious name, the Gup Sorting Providence Trial doesn’t tell you the rules by which you should actually sort the monsters. So we are here to help you and tell you how to complete Gup Sorting in Risk of Rain Returns.

If you’re only looking for a quick hint, to complete Gup Sorting in Risk of Rain Returns, you should sort the monsters by size using the holes in the floor. You can kill them to reduce them and become their target so that they follow you. Perhaps the most important clue is that the topmost level of this test should remain empty.

If these hints are enough for you, you can try to complete Gup Sorting yourself, finding your way to solving the puzzle. But if you are tired and want to get a new skin quickly, here is what you should do:

  • Climb to the top level and kill the big Gup in the small room to the right or left.
  • When it turns into two medium Gups, run away from them so that they fall into the hole in the floor. Keep running so that they fall one more level lower.
  • Kill the medium Gups so they turn into small Gups. Run away from them so that they fall to the lowest level.
  • Go to the top floor and kill the big Gup in the other room.
  • Let the middle Gups follow you so that they fall down one level. Keep running so that they fall one more level lower.
  • Once you do this, you will complete the trial and get the Hivemind achievement.

Simply put, to win, you must sort the Gups by size from the lowest level to the third. An essential condition is that the top fourth level must be empty. Also, you cannot kill the small monsters, as the level will automatically restart.

However, the number of Gups at each level does not matter. That is, you can leave only one large one at the third level and one medium one at the second level, reduce all other monsters, and throw them to the first level. Or you can drop just two small Gups on the first level and leave a lot of medium ones on the second level. This test has several solutions.

To summarize, here’s what you need to know to complete Gup Sorting in Risk of Rain Returns:

  1. Sort the Gups from the first to the third level.

  2. Leave the fourth level empty.

  3. Killing even one little Gup will restart the level.

  4. The number of Gups of the same size in each level does not matter.

Risk of Rain Returns is now available for PC and Nintendo Switch.
