The holidays are now the season of slashers, at least for 2024. Screambox has released the trailer for Terrifier 3, which shows Art the Clown terrorizing and killing people during the Christmas season (seen below). The first look at the third installment comes after a re-release of the second film earlier this month. The next film will bring back David Howerton Thornton, who plays the killer clown, and the second film’s lead, Lauren LaVera, as Sienna.
Terrifier 3 Trailer: Art the Clown Dresses as Santa to Ruin Christmas
The Terrifier 3 trailer does not give away too much on top of the little that is known about what we should expect from the film. Sienna survived and defeated the supernatural killer clown, but as revealed by the end of the last film, the clown was primed to return. This next entry will expand on the lore of the clown and upscale everything fans associate with the series: gore and scares.
Coming off the first film in 2016, the sequel was a refinement that received a better reception. It was a surprise hit with a $215,000 budget and grossed $15 million. Much of this could be due to the success rate of horror post-2020, but also the viral stories of people passing out and vomiting from the extreme violence.
The success of Terrifier 2 did not hold back it being met with some criticism. Much of the discussions were pivoting away from a grounded slasher to introducing supernatural elements, and the other was it being a 2-hour and 18-minute movie. In an interview with Screen Rant, director Damien Leone is trying his “best to keep it under two hours.” Although we don’t see hints in the Terrifier 3 trailer, he also said he is “shifting over back into the world of Terrifier the original” to deliver a “vintage retro Grindhouse film.”
