As if getting shrunk wasn’t bad enough of an ordeal, you now also have to deal with bugs in Grounded. Or perhaps you don’t have to– because if you know the best base locations in Grounded, you can shelter yourself from the icky spiders and mosquitoes.
If you prefer to turtle away in your own little cozy spot in the backyard instead of being BURGL’s errand boy/girl, consider the following best base locations in Grounded.
Mysterious Machine
You don’t have to venture far if you want a good spot. The Mysterious Machine is already one of the earliest and best base locations in Grounded. You’ll run into it during the main quest.
It has a research lab nearby and it’s also a clean and level platform so you don’t have to double up too much on the wall materials. Almost all the important locations are within access since the Mysterious Machine is located at the center of the map.
The Baseball
The Mysterious Machine is great for an initial location, but soon enough, you’ll find that an elevated base is way too valuable and more defensible. You can find it right outside the starting point.

You can easily find it and works well as a starter base. Do prepare to expend more effort and energy in building at the top of the Baseball; it’s worth it just to be safe from spiders and ants.
Juice Box
You have stay hydrated all the time in Grounded and constantly looking for dew drops in the morning can quickly eat up your daylight time. Hence, the Juice Box is quite unbeatable for having an easy source of hydration. It replenishes daily and you can find it at the right of the Oak tree, near the Pond.
Moreover, the Juice Box isn’t just best for the hydration it provides; it’s also close to the pond which you can escape to in the event of those pesky and vengeful spider attacks.
The Oak Tree
BURGL often serves as the main quest hub in Grounded and you’ll find yourself constantly returning to him throughout the game. So save yourself the trouble and build a base near the Oak Tree. It’s easy enough to spot in the map.
The trick is finding a balanced spot. Too near the Oak and you’ll run the risk of getting rampaged by spiders and too far means you might as well build someplace else. You can, however, build some platforms and walkways on the elevated roots to steer clear of the Orb Weavers and their brood.
The Pond
If you don’t mind trading blows with mosquitoes from time to time (they drop decent weapon materials anyway), the Pond’s surface is a deceptively clever area in which to build a base. The Pond is located north of the Oak tree.
You will need to build a floating base here, but you also won’t have to worry about the critters under the pond. It’s also near the Pond Lab and you’ll have access to the nearby Juice Box and other resources.
Near the Picnic Table
There are many spots near the Picnic Table in Grounded such as near the Sandbox or the large flat rock nearby but most of them are advantageous for the mere fact that you’re near the Picnic Table. There are plenty of snacks to go around in that area, it’s practically the food version of the Juice Box, but in buffet form. To get here, go to the westernmost part of the map.
You can even build the whole base on the Picnic Table itself since it’s also elevated. For that matter, it’s one of the best base locations in Grounded for mid-to-late game so you can divert your food-bearing resources and efforts to something else.
