The world of The Sims 4 gameplay challenges is wide and diverse. Many of them, like the Not-So-Berry Challenge and the 100 Baby Challenge, require hours of commitment from players tasked with successfully raising entire generations of Sims. The Sims 4 Barbie Legacy Challenge, created by sims-himbo on Tumblr, add a new layer: not only do you need to raise ten generations of Sims, but they’re all Barbie. Or, rather, they’re all different versions of Barbie, from Movie Star Barbie to Best-Seller Barbie, and that’s only two out of the ten.
The Sims 4: Barbie Legacy Challenge – What Is It?
Created not long after the release of the Barbie movie (dir. Greta Gerwig), the Barbie Legacy Challenge tasks The Sims 4 players with raising ten generations of Barbie – and yes, they’ve all got to be named Barbie. Each generation has specific guidelines laid out, but here are the general challenge rules:
- All heirs must be female and named Barbie. (Non-heir children can have different names.)
- You can use the freerealestate cheat for your first house, but money cheats are inadvisable after that.
- You’re allowed and encouraged to use lot traits and rewards to boost skill gain – anything in-game is fair game.
If you’re looking to embark on the Barbie Legacy Challenge, you’re going to need The Sims 4: Get to Work, City Living, Cats & Dogs, Get Famous, and Island Living expansion packs, as well as Spa Day and Parenthood game packs. These packs cover the ten mandatory generations laid out in the challenge, but if you want to attempt the optional generations as well, you’re also going to need The Sims 4: University, Cottage Living, Horse Ranch and Strangerville.

These generations of the Barbie Legacy Challenge aren’t necessary to complete the main challenge with its ten generations, but they’re fun if you’re not finished playing with Barbie in The Sims 4.
