It has only been two days since the release of Watch Dogs 2, but the sequel is already shaping up to be a more refined and livelier version of the first game. Not only is Marcus Holloway a fresher protagonist compared to Aiden Pearce’s brooding, cardboard-like personality from the first game, but the world of San Francisco is a lot more vibrant and expansive than what we had to work within the first setting of Chicago. Despite this installment’s new bells and whistles, one of the issues that are still suppressing the overall experience of Watch Dogs 2 is its broken multiplayer feature.

Firing up the ‘seamless online multiplayer’ in Watch Dogs 2 causes a substantial lag time, or simply makes the game crash until players’ only option is to restart it all together. Ubisoft was aware of the issues surrounding the multiplayer experience prior to the game’s launch on November 15 but expected these problems would be resolved by the time it officially released. No luck thus far.

San Francisco in Watch Dogs 2 is more vibrant than Chicago.

On Tuesday, Ubisoft put out a statement, explaining a patch to fix this problem was in certification for PlayStation 4 and Xbox one, but as of now this patch has not been activated. In fact, Ubisoft has recently removed any reference to a certification from the Watch Dogs 2 website and has instead completely shut down the seamless multiplayer so as not to affect the core gameplay experience. Rest assured, however, that they are still working hard to resolve this issue. A portion of the statement from the development team reads:

To be clear, you can play the full single-player campaign normally. Additionally, co-op is still fully functional by inviting friends through the game menu. However, the Bounty-Hunter mode and other activities that would occur with other outside players who enter your game will be unavailable until the issue is resolved. We truly appreciate your patience during this time.

Check back with The Nerd Stash for updates concerning the patch for seamless online multiplayer. The PC version of Watch Dogs 2 will be available November 29.
