The Day Before developers have announced that the game servers will shut down in January and that Steam will be giving out mass refunds. Only a few weeks after developer FNTASTIC announced on Twitter that it would be shutting down, it has now confirmed that servers will be closing on January 22, 2024. This means that The Day Before servers will have been up for a little over a month between launching and shutting down, with development on the early access game ceasing only a few days after launch. While this shouldn’t come as a shock, between the studio closure and The Day Before no longer being sold on Steam, servers are closing sooner than some may have expected. In addition to the closure, Steam will be giving out mass refunds.

In the announcement, FNTASTIC also confirmed that Steam will be giving out mass refunds to anyone who purchased The Day Before. It stated that its investor Mytona is working directly with Steam to “facilitate refunds for all game purchasers.” While some players were able to get refunds via Steam through the two hours or less policy, others who spent more time with the game haven’t been able to. The statement says that Steam will proactively give refunds to the other players, so owners of The Day Before shouldn’t have to do anything on their end.

Valve itself has not made a statement regarding these refunds. FNTASTIC also has not said when these refunds will start happening. The Day Before has had a tumultuous run, at one point even earning itself the honor of being the most wishlisted game on Steam. Upon release, the game advertised as an MMO zombie survival game was actually an extraction shooter, that was light on content and filled with bugs. Now, The Day Before’s journey will end in January with server shutdowns.

The Day Before is not available for purchase on any platforms.
