One effective and rather comical way of waking up a monster from a nap is the “Barrel Bomb alarm clock.” This rude awakening is an excellent means to break parts and deal tons of damage instantaneously, especially when using Mega Barrel Bombs. One way to craft these explosives in Monster Hunter World is to catch Gunpowderfish for their combustible scales. This aquatic Endemic Life drops Gunpowderfish Scales and Great Gunpowderfish Scales if you’re lucky.
Best MHW Gunpowderfish Locations
Among the multiple locations where you can farm-fish Gunpowderfish in Monster Hunter World, the fishing hole in Elder’s Recess is, by far, the best spot. I’m speaking about the crystal cave pool in Sector 8, right next to the Eastern Camp. In other words, you needn’t travel anywhere with this camp unlocked; simply turn around after arriving and start fishing for Gunpowderfish.
Obviously, using a Fishing Rod is the most meticulous method of catching fish in MHW and doesn’t scare away the Endemic Life. However, if you’re lazy like me and are just spam-farming the Elder’s Recess Eastern Camp for Great Gunpowderfish Scales, then using your Capture Net works just as well.
While changing locations for farming MHW Gunpowderfish doesn’t affect anything in terms of snagging a “Great Size,” Sector 7 in Coral Highlands is a decent change of scenery. You can reach the area by starting at the southernmost camp and making your way northeastward to Sector 7, where you’ll find a shallow pool of Gunpowderfish.
As a matter of fact, using your Capture Net here is easier than the Elder’s Recess location, thanks to the flatness of the ground. You can also don your Ghillie Mantle before hopping into the water so as to not scare away the fish.
