Last week, Amazon successfully made its first commercial drone delivery in the English countryside. The most technologically advanced delivery to date included popcorn and an Amazon Fire Stick (sounds like someone was settling in for a massive binge fest!). The package was delivered 13 minutes after ordering to two guinea pig customers. Apparently, the drone touched down on a landing pad set up outside of the customer’s home. Here’s a video of the whole process:

Once Amazon Prime Air is available all over, they are promising packages at your door in thirty minutes or less. The drones are free of human pilots from launch, delivery, and back again. Amazon has created these drones themselves with “sense-and-avoid technology” that allows them to sense objects and avoid them, obviously. And the drone delivery wasn’t the only Amazon development in the news in the past month.

About a week ago, Amazon released a video detailing Amazon Go. Amazon Go is a grocery store that allows you to walk in, grab the things you need, and walk out again without ever interacting with anyone. When you first enter the Amazon Go location, you will scan your phone at the door. While you shop, things will be added to your Amazon cart through the use of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and sensors. When you have everything you need, you can walk out and the funds will be taken from whatever card is associated with your Amazon account. They are currently testing the first Amazon Go location in downtown Seattle, Washington.

Remember a few months ago when everyone was freaking out about Amazon Prime? And now this! Amazon’s ability to keep up with the times and using the current technologies to their utmost potential is astounding. What do you think of all of Amazon’s new technology? Are you on board? Or is it all a little too much like an episode of Black Mirror? Let us know in the comments below!
