The recent reveal of MachineGames’ latest project Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has already generated a lot of hype. Indy’s AAA gaming introduction looks ambitious and action-packed, but not everything about the game is known yet despite the 2024 release window. Here are some of the most important details confirmed about Indiana Jones and the Great Circle that any prospective buyer will want to know.

It Will Be Almost Entirely First-Person

It has been possibly the singular highest point of controversy since the reveal but, yes, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be almost entirely a first-person game. The only time players will see Indy from the third-person perspective will be in cutscenes and some gameplay moments that involve tasks like climbing. For some, this will be an amazing point of immersion that makes it feel like the player truly is Indiana Jones, while for others, barely seeing Indiana Jones’ face for the entirety of the game seems a little off.

It’s Being Published by Bethesda, Not Developed

In the reveal trailer at the Xbox Developer Direct, Todd Howard said he initiated the game’s creation and he is also serving as its executive producer. Aside from the leading Bethesda man himself being onboard, that seems to be about where Bethesda’s involvement begins and ends. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle shouldn’t really be considered a part of Bethesda’s catalog in the same way that titles like Starfield and Fallout 76 are, which might be a selling point for players who are more wary of Bethesda titles and the company’s blunders. MachineGames has a fairly spotless track record, especially when it comes to a game’s launch state, by comparison.

MachineGames is Developing Indiana Jones and Wolfenstein 3 Simultaneously

Pete Hines retired from Bethesda in 2023, but he confirmed back in 2018 that Wolfenstein 3 is being made. It’s been six years since Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus and fans of the iconic first-person shooter series are hungry for more, especially after the disappointing appetizer that was Wolfenstein: Youngblood. Details about Wolfenstein 3 are still virtually non-existent, and it’s clear that MachineGames is putting the bulk of its efforts into Indiana Jones and the Great Circle right now, but that doesn’t mean Wolfenstein 3 isn’t also coming.

Harrison Ford Does Not Appear To Be Involved

It’s no secret that, while Harrison Ford’s likeness is clearly being utilized for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, the voice of Indy in the game is actually sourced from the actor Troy Baker known for other characters like Sam Drake in Uncharted 4, Joel in The Last of Us, and Talion in both Middle-Earth Shadow games. Beyond not being the voice actor for Indy, it doesn’t seem as though Harrison Ford has been involved in the game’s production in any capacity, and he’s yet to comment on its existence.

The Game is Set to Release in 2024

It’s pretty surprising to see a game that effectively just got its first concrete details also get a release window that will have it on the market so soon, but Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has been set to arrive sometime in 2024. Does that lead to some natural skepticism about what the state of the game will be at launch? Absolutely. As mentioned previously, though, MachineGames has a fairly solid track record when it comes to the day-one releases of its Wolfenstein and Quake titles. Plus the actual gameplay shown off during the Xbox Developer Direct looks incredibly smooth.
