Ghostbusters… assemble. Sony Pictures has released the latest trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (seen below). The latest footage emphasizes the new Ice Age to come from this latest threat while giving us a deeper look at the newly formed team of poltergeist hunters.
An ancient artifact’s power is unlocked. Now, a frozen attack has struck New York with a plethora of ghosts running through the Big Apple. It leads to our veteran, junior, and newly hired Ghostbusters to join forces to zap their enemies with their proton packs.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Trailer Unites New and Old Busters
The new film connects the original two films with 2021’s Afterlife. It makes for a balancing act for all generations of fans of the supernatural comedy franchise. The newest installment brings back Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts. It will also feature newcomers Kumail Nanjiani and Patton Oswalt.
Between competition and last year’s strikes jumbling Hollywood’s plans, we have seen various upcoming movies adjust release dates. Before releasing this latest trailer, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire was set on March 29. Due to some shifts taking place, it went into a March 22 slot. Due to this, it lost some extra time alone as Godzilla x Kong jumped to the March 29 spot, squeezing the blockbuster against the kaiju flick with Dune: Part Two, which starts the month on March 1.
The competition could mean harm to the anticipated sequel. While it has a cast of popular young stars and will tickle people’s nostalgia with the OG actors, it will be a tight space for them to fit. Afterlife did not do too hot at the box office with $203 million, largely due to the theaters being empty as COVID continued to impact businesses. While theater attendance is not what it was in pre-2020, it has improved, which could benefit either Ghostbusters or its competition.
Frozen Empire will be released on March 22.
