Fans have been dying to find out what Microsoft has planned for the future of Xbox, and we can all finally stop worrying now. Xbox consoles are not going anywhere, and Microsoft plans on staying in the console business for the foreseeable future, but we still don’t know what Microsoft has planned if all the exclusives will go multiplatform.
Multiple leaks have confirmed that Xbox is on its way to releasing its exclusives on other platforms such as the PlayStation 5 and the Nintendo Switch. That led to people speculating that this would make the Xbox consoles obsolete and might be the first sign of Microsoft pulling out of the console manufacturing industry and turning into a third-party publisher.
Xbox Not Leaving The Console Industry Even With Multiplatform Exclusives
But these fears and concerns have been put to rest by a reporter who revealed in her newsletter that Phil Spencer discussed this matter in an internal meeting. He said that Microsoft has no plans to stop making consoles and Xboxes will remain part of the company’s strategy.
Xbox has been a part of the gaming industry for as long as we can remember, and them pulling out entirely doesn’t seem very likely. But since Xbox console sales are constantly trailing behind PlayStation, Microsoft’s exclusives haven’t been doing as well as they could if they were multiplatform. But at the same time, that will completely defeat the purpose of buying an Xbox in the first place.
During the Microsoft and FTC trailer leak last year, we found out that the company had plans for a mi-generation refresh for the Xbox Series X. Along with that, there were also plans of a “hybrid” console around 2028. So clearly there are at least a few more years before the doom and gloom can continue.
Phil Spencer said that he is aware that people are concerned about the future of Xbox, and that the company will hold a public event that will explain what Microsoft has in store. That event is supposed to take place sometime this week and will hopefully come bearing good news.
