Piotr Babieno, the president of Silent Hill 2 Remake developer Bloober Team, recently voiced his displeasure with the most recent trailer for the game and placed the blame solely on publisher Konami. The Silent Hill 2 Remake combat trailer which premiered at a recent PlayStation State of Play event was met with disappointment and anger from fans of the franchise for seemingly losing the spirit of the original horror classic. Bloober Team agrees with the sentiment.

Silent Hill 2 Remake Trailer Backlash

“We are trying to fully reflect this romantic vision of the game that debuted 22 years ago,” remarked Babieno translated from an interview conducted in Polish, “We think that when players see real gameplay they will evaluate it in a completely different way.”

While Konami is publishing the Silent Hill 2 Remake, which typically means they take on the brunt if not all marketing-related matters, the game is being developed by Bloober Team, a Polish development studio responsible for several notable horror titles in recent years like The Medium, Blair Witch, and the Layers of Fear series. The trailer caught heat from much of the horror gaming community for a number of reasons, and Babieno is trying to cover for the final product that Bloober Team is working on by stating that the way the trailer shows off Silent Hill 2 Remake “does not reflect the spirit of the game.”

For its part, Konami has yet to issue any kind of response to Piotr Babieno or to the backlash the latest Silent Hill 2 trailer has received (The trailer on YouTube is currently sitting with more than 30,000 dislikes, albeit a nearly even number of likes). The game will is set to release sometime in 2024, so classic Silent Hill 2 fans may still be able to hold on to the hope that the final product does not reflect the issued material thus far.
