The Memory of Chaos is one of Honkai Star Rail‘s endgame challenges, featuring challenging boss fights that require you to beat them in a certain number of turns. Not to mention, these enemies can pack a punch as well. To complete the Memory of Chaos and earn all the possible rewards, prepare to bring two squads of your best characters. Let’s go over how to beat the Memory of Chaos in Honkai Star Rail.

Honkai Star Rail Memory of Chaos Guide

The Memory of Chaos in Honkai Star Rail rotates every few weeks with new enemies and challenges. Each stage in the Memory of Chaos features two tough battles that you need to defeat within a certain number of turns. In Version 2.0, the Memory of Chaos features a challenge between you and the new boss introduced in Penacony: Sam. For the sake of endgame content, we will cover the final two stages of the Memory of Chaos, Stages 11 and 12.

Each Memory of Chaos in Honkai Star Rail also has a “Memory Turbulence” buff to help you clear each stage. For Version 2.0, this rotation is as follows: “All allies’ Basic ATK and Skill deal 50% more damage. Whenever a skill point is consumed, Memory Turbulence gains 1 Hits Per Action, up to a maximum of 10 stacks. At the beginning of each Cycle, each Hits Per Action will deal DMG once to a random enemy based on the target’s max HP.”

Memory of Chaos: Stage 11

This Memory of Chaos features fights between two of the most iconic mechas in the game: Svarog and Sam. Svarog is the first boss you’ll have to prepare for, while Sam is the second.

First Half: Memory of Chaos in Honkai Star Rail

In the first half of Stage 1, you’ll fight two waves of enemies. The first wave consists of a Dreamjolt Troupe’s Beyond Overcooked and a Decaying Shadow.

The Dreamjolt Troupe’s Beyond Overcooked is a new enemy for Version 2.0. This enemy has a unique stacking mechanic known as “Stove Heating,” as indicated by the number next to its health bar. This number goes up by one each time it takes damage, up to six stacks. When it reaches 6/6 for the first time, it will enter the “Ignite Stove” state. Damage it six times again, and it will use “Kitchen Mishap” and damage itself and the other enemy.

DoT damage will raise the counter of this enemy, so use characters like Black Swan or Kafka to clear this stage. We recommend destroying the Dreamjolt Troupe’s Beyond Overcooked first. The Decaying Shadow is a standard enemy that shouldn’t bring you too much trouble, but it can interrupt your turns with disruptive stuns. Bringing Effect RES characters like Fu Xuan or cleansers like Bronya or Luocha should ensure this enemy is not a problem.

The second wave features another Dreamjolt Troupe’s Beyond Overcooked enemy and the Svarog boss. Svarog will occasionally spawn a fist-shaped mech that can abduct and trap your characters, rendering them unable to attack. AoE damage to defeat the Dreamjolt Troupe and Svarog will also help clear this wave more efficiently.

Second Half

This half features the new boss fight, Sam. Sam enters a special form, the “Secondary Combustion state,” which makes his attacks stronger. The main gimmick with Sam is how he “combusts” your Skill Points. Each time you consume a Skill Point, you will take damage. However, to remove Sam’s Secondary Combustion state, you have to use a total of five Skill Points. This means you’ll need to bring characters who can generate and use up Skill Points quickly.

Sam is weak to Imaginary and Quantum, which makes the characters Dan Heng: Imbibitor Lunae and Qingque obvious DPS candidates. These characters constantly use Skill Points to deal damage, making them ideal for removing Sam’s Secondary Combustion.

First Half: Memory of Chaos in Honkai Star Rail

The first half features two waves. The first wave features a fight between three enemies: a Dreamjolt Troupe, Mr. Domescreen, a Searing Powder, and an Aurumaton Gatekeeper. Two things to watch out for here: the Mr. Domescreen enemy can reduce your energy for your characters. Therefore, if you are using a character who is reliant on their Ultimate, like Jing Yuan, take out this enemy first.

The Aurumaton Gatekeeper will spawn in mobs, but destroying these mobs will also deal additional damage to the rest of the enemies, so don’t worry too much about this enemy.

The second wave features a fight with the boss version of Gepard. Gepard is a fairly easy boss to deal with. The main thing to look out for is his ability to spawn Silvermane Gunner mobs and shield them from taking one instance of damage. Bringing AoE characters to help deal with this shield easily can help.

Second Half

The first wave features a fight between a Voidranger: Trampler and a Disciples of Sanctus Medicus: Shape Shifter. The Shape Shifter (the enemy on the left) is the main target here, as he can summon extra mobs that can revive themselves, which can add lots of turns to your run. If possible, Weakness Break the Shape Shifter before it’s able to spawn extra mobs.

The second wave is against the new Memory Zone Meme enemy, and this guy is anything but a joke. This enemy has two separate phases. In this phase, the Meme can use the moves “Losing Eventide Light” and “Watery Dissolution” abilities, aiming to inflict your characters with Morbid Dream. You need to inflict a Weakness Break on this boss when these moves are used to ensure your characters stay alive. Using characters like Welt, who can chip away the Meme’s weakness bar, is extremely helpful.

In the second phase, the Meme enters a Sunset or Nightfall state immediately and attempts to inflict your characters with Morbid Dream. When an ally uses any move, the Meme will lock onto the ally and inflict them with Morbid Dream. (This applies to the first phase as well.) If your characters’ die to Morbid Dream, the Meme will spawn a Sombrous Sepulcher enemy. You can defeat this enemy to revive the ally who died.

Those are the main challenges for Honkai Star Rail’s Version 2.0 Memory of Chaos. Imaginary characters will be your friend here, and any DoT team you have can also help you clear these fights faster.
