Video game adaptations are in style more than ever. The live-action Borderlands film has given the first look at its cast, including Cate Blanchett as Lilith and Jamie Lee Curtis as Tannis (seen below). Other stars featured in our first look include Kevin Hart as Roland, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, Florian Munteanu as Krieg, and Jack Black as Claptrap.
We should be expecting a trailer soon to get a better look at the live-action take on the cel shaded world. From what we know, the film follows Lilith as she returns to her home planet, Pandora, to look for the missing daughter of Atlas (Edgar Ramirez). She forms a squad to help her on this mission.
Borderlands Film Cast Revealed in Costume, Featuring Cate Blanchett and Jamie Lee Curtis
The first look at the upcoming movie based on the Gearbox looter shooters comes from People magazine. While it is live-action, it looks accurate to the in-game characters with the detail-oriented costumes and quality makeup. We will have to wait for a trailer to see the world of Pandora and all of its dangers that await our heroes.
Cate Blanchett signed on for the Borderlands film in 2020, which was followed by the rest of the cast by 2021. Production began in April 2021 and wrapped in Hungary that summer.
Eli Roth directed and co-wrote the film with Joe Crombie. The film makes for a great departure for the horror filmmaker known for movies like Hostel and, most recently, Thanksgiving. While he knows how to inject some humor and dump buckets of blood and guts on the screen, he has directed nothing like the bold personality of this video game franchise.
Lionsgate will release Borderlands on August 9.
