Sega Leaker Confirms New Jet Set Radio & Crazy Taxi Games Will Be Live Service

We still want single player games.

Sega announced during The Game Awards that it was bringing back its classic games like Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe, and more. But it seems that they may not be what we expected if this leak is to be believed. According to a veteran Sega leaker, the upcoming Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi games will be live-service titles.

The only time we saw the games in action was in tiny snippets during the trailer, and they weren’t enough to show whether the games were following the live-service model or not. However, according to the leaker, Sega has a new strategy in place to bring back older IPs and rework them for modern audiences.

The leaker, Midori, has been spot on when it comes to leaks relating to Sega games in the past. According to them, Sega isn’t just bringing back games as remasters or remakes like we originally thought. Although the mere mention of “live service” strikes fear into the hearts of nostalgia-laden gamers, it looks like we’ll be getting the best of both worlds.

Leak Suggests Sega Is Making Crazy Taxi & Jet Set Radio Live Service Titles

Sega will be making traditional remakes for both Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio, but the company won’t stop there. These IPs will be revived, and then new games for both will be released, which will follow the live service model. The remakes will be a lot like what we’re used to in the industry, but the reboots will hopefully breathe new life into these age-old IPs.

Midori says that these live-service games will have live events, collabs, customization items, and, of course, microtransactions. The Crazy Taxi reboot will apparently be able to support up to 100 players racing at the same time. Jet Set Radio will be taking a page from Fortnite’s book and modeling its gameplay around that.

Furthermore, the reboots will be free-to-play, while the remakes will be full-priced games, as expected. These remakes are expected to get additional expansions in the form of DLCs later down the line, planned for 2026.

Hopefully, Sega will also remake other classics from the Genesis era, like Comix Zone, Alladdin, and Road Rash, and give them the full remake treatment, like Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio.
