Bill Hader will be returning to television screens after HBO greenlit his comedy series, Barry. HBO getting dibs on Hader’s series is unsurprising due to his exclusive development deal with them. The show is co-written by Hader, while he also stars in it and directs.
According to Deadline, the plot of the series is as follows;
“Co-written by Hader and Silicon Valley executive producer Alec Berg, Barry centers on an ex-Marine (Hader) who works as a low-rent hitman in the Midwest. Lonely and dissatisfied in his life, he begrudgingly travels to Los Angeles to kill someone and ends up finding an accepting community in a group of eager hopefuls within the LA theater scene.”
Hader is best known as a result of his extended period on Saturday Night Live. His run on SNL was eight years, during which he earned three Emmy nominations. He has also done considerable work in the movies. He has appeared, or voiced characters, in movies like Superbad, Paul and Inside Out.
Other confirmed cast members include Henry Winkler, Stephen Root, and Glenn Flesher, as well as Sarah Goldberg and Anthony Carrigan.
HBO has picked up several other shows as well as Hader’s. Crashing, from Judd Apatow and Pete Holmes, which also was picked up to series. Divorce is another comedy series coming later in the year, starring Sarah Jessica Parker.
Barry won’t be gracing our TVs until 2018, yet, if you need a Hader fix in the meantime just wait. Since Hader is voicing Alpha 5 in the Power Rangers movie. This movie takes the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and gives them a bit more depth. Hader’s casting means that they’re keeping Alpha 5 the lighter, comic relief character.
