Last Epoch may be more than simply a Diablo clone, but its mechanics and overall GUI certainly borrow elements from the dungeon-crawler. But even with these similarities, newcomers might be curious about mechanics, like how the Attunement stat is supposed to work in Last Epoch. It may be a familiar RPG term, but we’re happy to put it into context here!

What is Attunement in Last Epoch and How Does it Work?

Attunement is the stat governing maximum Mana in Last Epoch. This is especially helpful for classes that consume large amounts of mana for their attacks. With cases like the Mage, this can mean your magic attacks completely replace your physical attacks if regen can keep up. Great early examples include Natural Attunement, a passive you can upgrade up to 8 times, with each time granting an Attunement point.

However, the Primalist and the Acolyte are blessed with innate Attunement stats, with Primalists being able to upgrade their Attunement through passives in Last Epoch. This practically makes sense with how expensive their abilities are for Mana Points, and from a lore standpoint it suggests they’re in tune with the natural mana flow.

Level Up Attunement

If you invest in Attunement points in Last Epoch, you’ll see subtle but solid growth with each skill point invested in passives. Early players will see their Mana improve by 2 points after adding their first bonus Attunement point, a 3.7% increase, and these add up quickly when you need those extra points to chain powerful attacks.

Can You Get the Same Benefits Without Attunement in Last Epoch?

Attunement Substitute

Yes, there are ways for non-Primalist base class characters to get extra base Mana or Mana Regen without upgrading Attunement. Depending on their subclass they can choose Passive abilities that upgrade either of these stats. This is handy for Mage players as their character quickly becomes a better spellcaster at long range and even close quarters, so this helps stop you from running out of resources.

Mages, to continue on this tangent, use fewer Mana points but use magic attacks more often, making Mana Regeneration a key asset. Adding these passives can allow you to thrive as a glass cannon, ready to disintegrate enemies across all eras without fear of running out of steam. They may be missing out on Attunement opportunities, but they have substitutes.
