With Ghostface behind, new thrills have opened up. Coming off his exit from Scream 7, Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon will helm the thriller Drop. The film will star The White Lotus star Meghann Fahy. He was hired on by Blumhouse to direct the fast-paced flick from a script written by Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach.
The plot is currently under wraps. In a post on X, Christopher Landon did say this “love letter” to Carrie (1976) director Brian De Palma (seen below). He wrote that he is “so excited to work with such a talented group of people.”
Christopher Landon Hops on to Direct Drop With Meghann Fahy
The news comes in from Deadline. Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller, and Cameron Fuller will produce. Sam Lerner will executive produce.
The upcoming film for Christopher Landon comes two months after quitting the job to be the director for Scream 7. He said it was “a dream job that turned into a nightmare.” The tumble came when Melissa Barrera was fired for pro-Palestinian Instagram posts that were highly critical of Israel. The co-lead, Jenna Ortega, also left due to scheduling conflicts for Wednesday that were caused by delays from the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.
Drop will reunite the director with Blumhouse, who helmed the Kathryn Newton and Vince Vaughn slasher comedy Freaky. He got his start by writing the Paranormal Activity sequels. As a director, he came in to direct Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones. While not his debut, it started his path to doing the biggest studio films. Other films include We Have a Ghost and both Happy Death Day movies.
The White Lotus star has recently dipped her toes into darker projects with the horror rom-com Your Monster with the fired Scream star. She is also known for The Bold Type and One Life to Live.
