The Oscars feel it is Kenough to deliver what has been hoped for and speculated for months. Ryan Gosling will perform his hit Barbie song I’m Just Ken at the Academy Awards. The performance will be a nice accompaniment as the actor is also up for Best Supporting Actor.
The song was one of the many highlights from the surreal Greta Gerwig movie. The song debuted on Billboard’s Hot 100 at 87. The album for the film, which features the popular single, debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200 and the first place spot for the soundtrack charts.
Ryan Gosling Hitting the Academy Awards to Perform I’m Just Ken
While the award show has not formally confirmed the news, multiple sources confirmed it to Variety, today. This comes not long after a cover story with the actor, who said he would be “open to it,” although he was not asked by the Academy at the time.
Popular songs in films can skyrocket into such massive hits that it becomes almost impossible not to have the stars perform it. Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga previously performed together their hit song from A Star Is Born, Shallow.
The songs in Barbie had major collaborations that led to one of the best stacks of tracks for any film in 2023. Ryan Gosling had I’m Just Ken, which was written by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, alongside songs from Lizzo, Billie Eilish, Nicki Minaj, and more. The Eilish song, What Was I Made For? received an Oscar nod and won a Grammy. Minaj and Ice Spice’s Barbie World and Dua Lipa’s Dance the Night also had nods at the Grammys.
Last year, Ryan Gosling got to produce more version of I’m Just Ken with an EP. The actor and producer Ronson collaborated to put together an acoustic version of the song, a disco version, and a Christmas rendition.
We will see what Barbie can pull together with its eight nominations and what performances we will see on March 10.
