Like other players, I’ve never been a stranger to some player-versus-player fun. Once in a while, I like to fire up a game to take my frustrations out on some poor gamer who’s come home after a 10-hour shift. Still, Helldivers 2 has suppressed my need to see a PvP mode. However, it seems that some potential dissidents still want to raise their arms against their fellow liberators. As the wholesome bug-squashing, automaton-dismantling community we are, we should fight against that and hope the studio never pits us against each other.
Helldivers 2 Would Not Benefit from a PvP Mode
You can try to change my mind, but I firmly believe a PvP mode would ruin Helldivers 2 in the blink of an eye. Think about it. So far, the community has banded together to face some of the toughest challenges in the game. Heck, some of us still have some Malevelon Creek PTSD. This is only possible due to a full PvE mode where we all cooperate to achieve a bigger goal.
Of course, there’s always that group of players who just want to pull the trigger all the way back and shoot other compatriots. And if an official mode for that were to arrive in the game, we’d be doomed. But don’t just take our word for it; the Helldivers 2 Reddit community has banded together today to place a flag in the ground to stand united against a PvP mode.
Why? Well, what other game can you think of that makes us work as a community? What other recent installment makes players band together to lead a massive online campaign? I can’t think of one. That’s what makes Helldivers 2 so unique, and a PvP mode will distract players away from this and make the game lose its most magnetic quality. Instead of focusing on squashing bugs, we’d just want to see who takes out other Helldivers fast, and the inevitable tea-bagging conga line would begin.
That’s not to say some traitors haven’t practiced this cowardly behavior. Recently, the game’s subreddit has been flooded with complaints of players engaging in team-killing practices. Something that would make the millions of Helldivers roll over in their grave. If players are already complaining about toxicity, imagine a PvP mode thrown into the mix. Thankfully, the developers mentioned they don’t plan to add player-versus-player activities. But I sincerely hope they keep their word because this is one of the most unique co-op experiences we’ve had in years.
