As you might expect, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth features some extremely formidable bosses, one of them is Jenova Emergent. While many might think this is one you’ll find near the end of your journey, that isn’t the case. You’ll come face to face with Shinra’s experiment in Chapter 5. If unprepared, you might be in for a world of pain. And like other boss fights in the game, it might be difficult to know this foe’s weaknesses. So, if you’re struggling to beat the one-winged warrior’s mommy, we have some tips.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Jenova Emergent Boss Guide
After certain events that transpire in the game, Jenova obtains an Emergent form, which is not too pleasing to the eye. Frankly, its looks aren’t the only dangerous thing about this boss. Jenova Emergent has many skills that can make this one of the most challenging fights in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Luckily, we’ve prepared a breakdown of this enemy’s abilities and the best way to avoid them while damaging this horrendous creature.
First Phase
- As soon as the fight begins, cast Asses on the creature.
- This will show that Jenova Emergent doesn’t have any elemental weaknesses. However, it says that damaging the boss enough will pressure it, allowing you to break some of its parts that increase the stagger bar. This is the most important thing to know when fighting it.
- Vengeance (Unblockable attack).
- When you see Jenova Emergent cast Vengeance, dodge as fast as possible. You can see where the attack will land by looking at the purple ray of light coming out of the boss.
- After staggering the boss, you’ll be able to target its head. Buff your party members and have all of them attack this part of its body. After crippling it, the second phase will begin.
Second Phase
The second phase will see Jenova Emergent get out of its comfortable spot on one side of the arena and join you in the middle to move around freely, much like other Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth bosses. Here are the skills it’ll cast and how to avoid them:
- Tentacle Whip
- This is a normal unmarked attack. The boss will attack with its tentacles twice. Either dodge the hits or block them.
- Exaltation (Unblockable attack)
- Jenova Emergent will begin casting Exaltation and launch laser rays in five directions. You can easily avoid this attack by staying in the middle of two rays.
- Malevolence (3-hit attack)
- This one will hit hard if you don’t avoid it. Jenova will begin casting Malevolence. Once it goes off, it’ll attack twice with its tentacles in a donut-shaped form, and for the last hit, it’ll charge at your currently controlled character and hit you with its tentacle. You need to cast Protect, dodge it, or take the hit and heal as soon as possible.
- Tackle Attack
- This is another unmarked attack. During the second phase, you might see Jenova charge at you with a tackle. You can identify the move by looking at Jenova’s left tentacle. If it raises it and no spells are casting, prepare to dodge.
These are the skills that Jenova Emergent will cast in its second phase. After staggering it for the second time, prepare for the final phase.
Final Phase
The last phase of Jenova Emergent’s boss fight in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will begin with a short cutscene. After that, you’ll see a few new skills, such as the following:
- Propagate
- This spell will regenerate Jenova’s head and shoulders. It might seem dangerous, but it is actually a great way for you to focus on these parts and stagger the boss faster.
- Carnage (Unblockable attack)
- Jenova Emergent will flail its tentacles around, hitting in all directions. Run as far away from the boss as possible to avoid its hits.
During the fight, Jenova Emergent will cast previous spells, such as Vengeance, so avoid them accordingly. Also, if you’re a skilled players, there a chance you can skip the third phase. This phase only includes Torment as a new spell. It targets one character and binds them, which you can easily avoid by dodging the attack.
General Tips and Tricks
While not the most challenging fight, it can be if you’re not familiar with the game’s combat system. To make the encounter easier, we have a few general tips for you:
- Bring Barret to the fight.
- His ranged capabilities are fantastic against Jenova Emergent’s body parts, which can be difficult to target by certain melee characters.
- Save your Synergy Skills and Limit Break for the Stagger period.
- While obvious, some of us are trigger-happy players and use these attacks at any moment. If possible, save them for when Jenova is staggered. Another tactic is using Synergy Skills when the boss is pressured and finishing up with Limit Breaks when you stagger it.
- Any Summon Materia will work.
- Since the boss has no elemental weakness, bring your favorite DPS-oriented Summon Materia. It doesn’t matter which, as long as it has good damaging skills.
It’s nice to see Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has a lot of variety regarding its boss fights, and Jenova Emergent isn’t an exception. Before you face it, though, prepare your items, transmute some of your materials, and check your skills. Preparation is key, and one small misstep can cost you dearly.
