Only a very special type of Doctor could beat Robin Hood in a sword fight using a spoon…and win. Peter Capaldi’s twelfth doctor brought us many experiences like this, and I am sad to say, his run as the Doctor is coming to close. Doctor Who will soon be ready for their thirteenth doctor.
Despite BBC asking Capaldi to return for another season, the 58-year-old refused the offer saying, “I don’t know how long I can give it my best, and if I’m not giving it my best, I don’t want to do it.” Capaldi’s doctor stood out amongst his younger predecessors but quickly won the hearts of all Whovians. His run as the twelfth doctor started in 2013 after Matt Smith’s rendition of The Doctor. Capaldi will continue to play Doctor Who through the next season and his final hurrah will be the 2017 Doctor Who Christmas special with Stephen Moffat.

Capaldi’s departure isn’t the only major change coming to the who-verse this year. Stephen Moffat, the creator of Sherlock, will also be leaving the popular British television show. Moffat, much like Peter Capaldi, stepped down because it was time for them to move onto other things. The creator and head writer of BBC’s Broadchurch, Chris Chibnall, will be taking over as official caretaker of The Doctor and his TARDIS.
So, now that we know it will be time to get accustomed to a new doctor, fans of the show have one very important question. Who will Doctor Who regenerate into next? The frontrunners for the time-traveling masterpiece haven’t made that information public as of yet. So for now, whoever, male or female, will be playing The Doctor will remain a mystery for the time being. For The Doctor’s sake, however, let’s hope they finally get the chance to be a ginger!
