Ariana Grande‘s Eternal Sunshine track “The Boy Is Mine” has only fueled the cheating rumors surrounding her and Ethan Slater. Since it’s about the singer risking it all for love, fans think the lyrics confirm she “stole” Slater from his wife, Lilly Jay. Although Grande hasn’t commented on the speculation herself, Jay appears to agree with the internet. According to the Daily Mail, she heard the song and instantly thought it was about her ex-husband.

A source close to Jay said she interpreted “The Boy Is Mine” as Grande’s way of “rubbing it in” that Slater is now hers. She apparently found the title disrespectful, considering the theories going around about Slater’s infidelity. Jay reportedly called the track a “slap in the face” to not only her, but “all women.” Despite the fact that Grande hasn’t discussed the meaning behind her song, Jay thinks it’s clear it references her dating scandal with Slater.
Ariana basically rubbed it in Lilly’s face that she stole Ethan from Lilly then asks her fans to not interpret her song the wrong way. This is not an interpretation. It is her literal words.

The source said Jay believes Grande released the controversial track because she’s upset over Slater’s ongoing divorce. Although the Broadway star filed for divorce from his wife in July 2023, the pair is still legally married. According to Us Weekly, they haven’t finalized their separation since they’re still discussing custody agreements concerning their one-year-old son.
Ariana left nothing up to interpretation. She spelled it out and those close to Lilly believe she did this because she is upset that Ethan’s divorce is still dragging out.
