The Sacred Arbor is a hidden elven city located in the Vermund region. You can reach this area during the ‘A Trial of Archery’ side quest. After being taught the human archery skill, Glyndwr will ask you to watch him attempt the trial. Unlike your companion, most elves cannot speak human language, and the words in the subtitle only come out as foreign writings. To learn Elvish in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you must give your Main Pawn the Woodland Wordsmith Specialization.

How To Get the Woodland Wordsmith Specialization in Dragon’s Dogma 2

You can obtain the Woodland Wordsmith Specialization scroll by maxing out your affection with an elf in the Sacred Arbor. I recommend approaching the innkeeper named Kough. She usually stands underneath the inn signboard, and you can chat with her even if you don’t understand elf language.

To open the gift menu, you can press the X or Square button on your controller. I suggest gifting her a bundle of flowers, which you can craft by combining two wildflowers. You only need to give her three gifts to max out her affection.

However, you can only offer one gift per day. If you have a ton of money, you can simply rest at the inn after you give one flower to Kough. After your third gift, the elf will immediately grant you the Woodland Wordsmith’s tome.

Once you have the item, open your inventory and select the new tome. Then, pick the ‘Use’ option, and your Main Pawn will learn Elvish in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Note that your companion can only have one specialization since their previous skill will be automatically erased.

With the Woodland Wordsmith Specialization, your Main Pawn will translate all your conversations with the elves. They will still speak Elvish, but the subtitles will become your preferred language.
