Red Bull Racing Boss Christian Horner Disrespects Neighborhood With Plans To Build a Swimming Pool Near Church

Christian Horner and his wife Geri Halliwell have applied to have a swimming pool built on the grounds of their mansion, but the local village folk find the whole idea disrespectful, fearing that it will disrupt their peaceful lifestyles. Documents from January, the Daily Mail reports, confirmed that the F1 boss and former Spice Girl sent over an application to have a swimming pool, new decorative planting, and a heated pump installed.

But the couple, who married in 2015, have seen floods of complaints from locals, who fear the home improvements may spoil the serenity of the surrounding area. One local in particular pointed out that the funerals at the local church may be disturbed by “screaming, splashing, and shouting.”

Neighbors Issued Formal Complaints

An archeological evaluation has also confirmed that the grounds upon which the pool will be built could house the remains of the deceased. The evaluators pointed out a ‘risk’ in overturning the grounds.

In a formal complaint to the council, one neighbour said: “The proposed open air swimming pool does not only affect my house but also the Church which is directly opposite the proposed site. Many local families attend the Church and of course the Rector conducts weddings, baptisms and funerals. It would be the height of disrespect to be standing in the Churchyard during an internment to be distracted by screaming, shouting and splashing from a short distance away.”

In the January documents, the couple stated that the improvements to the family home were an effort to “modernize” in hopes to “enhance” its foundations. The pool itself will be 40ft by 16ft complete with a fountain, topiary, sunbeds and a 6ft-deep end alongside their greenhouse, according to the plans.

“This is a tiny but particularly beautiful village in a rural community with its own cricket team whose home ground is down the road,” the second objector added. “Obviously the part of the village round the Church is a conservation area and I request that the peace of the area is preserved as it is now, so that locals and visitors can continue to enjoy a village that they chose for its beauty and peacefulness.”

And a third concurred: “This end of the village is a conservation area and buildings are listed. It has historically been a peaceful and quiet part of the village.”

Horner Faced Allegations Earlier This Year

All this comes after Horner faced allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards a female colleague. The complaint, which Red Bull claimed to take “extremely seriously” was conducted by an external lawyer. Horner was cleared of all wrongdoings on 28 February and maintained his role as team principal of the Red Bull Formula One team.
