Although the Sole Survivor is on a mission to uncover the reason behind the murder of their spouse and get their son back in Fallout 4, taking well-earned rests and fast-forwarding time in the right moments can be a game changer, as doing so will allow you to pick the optimal times to head out and get quick access to items. But how exactly can you do that? Here’s how to wait in Fallout 4.

You can wait in Fallout 4 by interacting with chairs, sofas, and the like all over the game’s map. Once you do that and your character sits down, simply press the Interact button/key once the wait option appears and then pick for how long you wish to respite. To recap, here’s how to wait in Fallout 4, no matter your platform of choice:

  • PS4/PS5: Interact with any kind of chair and then press X once you are seated.
  • Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X: Press A after sitting on a chair and the like.
  • PC: Press E shortly after sitting.

Differently from when you sleep โ€”a feat you can do by interacting with any kind of bed, sleeping bag, or mattress and then selecting Restโ€” you won’t recover your health after waiting. Waiting will also not cure the effects of lasting Radiation damage. You can only cure the latter by visiting doctors as well as by building a Decontamination Arch on any of your Settlements, powering it up, and then walking through it.
