The search for the new director for the upcoming solo Batman movie continues to hit road bumps, as it has been reported that frontrunner Matt Reeves is out. After a week of negotiations, and just two weeks removed from Ben Affleck stepping down as director, the War for the Planet of the Apes director exited talks with Warner Bros. Studios.
The Hollywood Report states that while Reeves has currently finalized his departure from the product, that talks could resume in the future when heads cool. While he was certainly a front runner, the American screenwriter wasn’t the only director the studio had in their sights, as rumors have circulated ever since Affleck reduced his role.
Canadian filmmaker Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Arrival) seems like the next best candidate on the list, but also seems unlikely as his hands will be full directing upcoming films Blade Runner 2049 and the Dune reboot. Warner Bros. is intent on finding their director, though, so it’s impossible to rule any situation out (good or bad).
It’s no secret that the Solo Batman movie, along with many other of DC’s films, has faced its fair share of problems in regards to its production. Alongside the directorial issues, it was revealed last week the film received a complete rewrite, originally written by Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns.
While I generally say it at the end of every one of my articles, but if there was ever an issue you would want to check back for at the site it’d be information on the solo Batman movie, as new news tends to break about it – usually more bad than good – every week.
