Munn appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Thursday and reflected on her battle with breast cancer. She recalled the life-changing moment her doctor caught the rare cancer, even when all seemed fine from the outside. Munn, who had just done a mammogram and tested negative for the BRCA cancer gene, explained how her doctor insisted on doing an extra test to make sure everything was fine. After being told she had a 37.3% risk, the Buddy Games star underwent an MRI. The doctors discovered she had three cancerous lumps in her right breast, including one close to her lymph nodes. It was an aggressive cancer called Luminal B.

“I wanted to look you in the eye and tell you you’re too young to have this much cancer in your breast. And you have a baby at home, and I need you to be aggressive because one is right by your lymph nodes and we need to move fast.”

According to Munn, it was the tough love and recommendation to undergo a double mastectomy that saved her life. The actress, who shares a son with comedian John Mulaney, chose to be “aggressive” about her treatment. “So I was super aggressive,” she confessed. “I mean I have breast tissue taken up, you know, all the way to my collarbone.” Munn praised the doctor for literally saving her life, calling her a “guardian angel.”
