Viewers simply couldn’t look away, as the Baudelaire children will be returning to Netflix for a second season for A Series of Unfortunate Events. The news was revealed on the show’s website, in the form of a letter written by Lemony Snicket himself, translated below:
Dear Viewers,
“It has come to my attention that, despite my repeated warnings, you have viewed the Netflix adaptation of my distressing work, known collectively as A Series of Unfortunate Events. Some of you have even binged, a word which here means, ‘Watched several episodes right in a row, despite having much better things to do with your time.’
To my horror, Netflix has been encouraged by this and funneled their ill-gotten gains towards a second season of this unhappy and unnerving series. Even as we speak, set builders, costume designers, and tramau specilist are stepping into action, the better to bring you even more upsetting episodes, all because your repute enthusiasm for this grim example of so-called family programming.I hope your happy. Because you won’t be, ever again.

While Snicket and the Baudelaires certainly aren’t happy about the renewal, fans will rejoice. Even before their Netflix debut, fans of the beloved, morbid children’s book series wondered whether the adaptation would succeed or if it would go the way of Jim Carry’s movie iteration.
Luckily, the series drawn out approach to the books has resulted in a great adaptation, with two episodes devoted toward each individual book. With 13 books – with season one getting through the first four – there’s still plenty of material for the show to work with, and hopefully, they will see it through to The End (the literal name of the last book in the series).
If the show follows the same eight episodes, half a book per episode structure, then the next season will be made up of The Austere Academy, The Ersatz Elevator, The Vile Village, and the Hostile Hosptial. Expect the VFD storyline to have interesting additions as well, with Colbie Smulders and Will Arnet hopefully returning and playing an even bigger role.
