Monster Hunter Wilds Is Breaking Boundaries With Multiplatform Release

Hunters, assemble!

This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

I can’t tell you how elated I am after learning Monster Hunter Wilds will get a multiplatform launch accompanied by cross-platform crossplay. Yes, that’s a first. Now, you might not think this is reason enough to be excited. I know, I know — we only want to hunt monsters with large swords. However, hunting next to others is much better. And sadly, in previous iterations, crossplay was a big no-no. But now, Capcom has dropped this Bazelgeuse-sized bomb, letting all future hunters know the series is tearing down all boundaries, allowing us to play with our friends regardless of their platform.

Monster Hunter Wilds - 2nd Trailer: The Hunter's Journey

While the exact release date for this mainline Monster Hunter game remains a mystery, this piece of information is quite substantial. Monster Hunter Wilds will allow crossplay between PC on Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Furthermore, and this is a big one, a Capcom ID is not required to play the game. Yes, given the recent events of other games asking players to make an account to play, this is a boon. Also, according to the official website, you can enable and disable crossplay whenever you want. Sadly, cross-save won’t be available, but that is perfectly understandable given a platform’s architecture and other technical shenanigans I’m not well-versed in.

So far, Monster Hunter Wilds seems like everything we’ve wanted since World. Don’t get me wrong, as the resident weeb of the company, I loved Rise. It featured some fantastic traversal options and fast-paced gameplay. However, the scale and immersion of Monster Hunter World are second to none. It seems Capcom is trying to combine both to bring the ultimate Monster Hunter experience. Whether the company will hit or miss the mark remains to be seen.

Thankfully, Monster Hunter Wilds’ multiplatform release will only happen on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. I don’t have anything against Nintendo Switch, but I don’t want the handheld console holding back this game. So, don’t sweat too much about which platform you should get to play Monster Hunter Wilds. Pick your favorite or the one you already own, convince your friends to join the hunt, and get ready to venture once more into these monster-riddled lands in 2025.
