Summer Game Fest started off with a bang, and Capcom was no slouch. Street Fighter 6 fans were expecting some news on the future, but no one could have expected the bombshell the Japanese gaming giant dropped. Season 2 of Street Fighter 6 is confirmed to have fan favorites from older games and even some crossover characters we never thought possible.
Season 2 of Street Fighter 6 will get the ever-alive and unkillable boss, M. Bison, who may look beaten up and bruised, but the maniacal smirk hasn’t gone amiss. The second returning character is Elena, who was a fan favorite for SF3 players but also the absolute bane of SF4 fans due to her ability to increase her health and prolong the battle.
Leaving both of those amazing reveals in the dust are the SNK fighters Terry and Mai, who have crossed over from Fatal Fury to Street Fighter 6’s Season 2 roster. The reveal left fans screaming at the top of their lungs at the Summer Game Fest 2024 show floor.
Street Fighter 6 Season 2 Trailer & Characters Release Dates
Capcom showed a small animated trailer that showed Luke and Jamie playing on an arcade machine and then moved on to showing other characters joining the fray. The trailer just confirmed the characters coming for Season 2 but didn’t show any in-game footage or gameplay since they are likely not ready yet. Terry looks more like his classic design instead of the makeover he got in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, but the same can not be said about Mai since she hasn’t been revealed yet.
What Capcom did confirm were the release dates for each character in Street Fighter 6 season 2. M. Bison will be the first psycho crushing his way into Street Fighter 6 in Summer 2024. Terry will be following close behind and start Power Waving Street Fighter characters in Autumn 2024. Elena will be released in Spring 2024, while the queen of SNK, Mai Shiranui will aptly be throwing her burning fans during Winter 2025. But before you tune out, Capcom confirmed on Twitter that M. Bison will get a gameplay trailer in only a few hours.
Capcom vs Snk Fans Left Quaking in Excitement
This is a massive throwback to the days of Capcom vs SNK 2, also colloquially known as CvS2, that fighting game fans thought would remain relegated to a bygone era of fighting game crossovers. No one could have possibly expected characters from a different fighting game to come to a mainline Street Fighter game because it has never happened before.
Perhaps the success of crossover characters in Tekken 7 swayed Capcom into finally including characters that aren’t canonical to the series. Bandai Namco not only added Akuma to Tekken 7 but also added characters that, at first glance, made no sense. Characters like Negan from The Walking Dead and Noctis from Final Fantasy XV were expertly weaved into the narrative and fighting style of Tekken. This could also mean that Capcom’s future strategy for Street Fighter 6 will include more characters from competing fighting game franchises, other Capcom IPs, or even beyond.
Luckily, none of the characters were leaked like the launch of SF6 and the fighters that later joined the roster in season 1. Street Fighter 6 is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4,
