Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone series has done exceptionally well since its premiere in 2018. However, one fan-favorite character almost got cut from the show completely. Ryan Bingham’s character, Walker, was not a part of Sheridan’s original script for the show. Bingham was only cast after Sheridan learned he could ride horses. The free-spirited cowboy that won the hearts of many was almost never created. This could have been a huge mistake.
Yellowstone stars some of the best actors of all time. Even its spinoffs have huge names attached. Actors such as Harrison Ford and Sam Elliot are just a few of the names that come to mind. Although fans get to see these amazing actors, they still show love to the smaller stars like Rayn Bingham.
Taylor Sheridan Almost Didn’t Create This Yellowstone Character
Taylor Sheridan originally contacted Bingham about writing a song for the series, as reported by Fandom Wire. However, when they couldn’t get anything to stick, Taylor Sheridan had a new idea. Bingham would join the cast of Yellowstone instead.
“They cast me once [Yellowstone] was already going. Prior to this, Taylor Sheridan, the writer and director, wrote and directed a film called Wind River. He contacted me then about writing a song for that movie, but I never came up with anything that stuck. Then, this show came around, and he contacted me about writing a song for the show. Then he found out I could ride horses, and I used to rodeo.”
Sheridan had no clue what he wanted this character to be. However, he told Bingham that if he did well, they would keep him. On the other hand, if he sucked, they would just kill his character off.
Yellowstone is now entering the second half of the final season. Despite the Kevin Costner drama, the series is still as loved as ever. There are also rumors of a sequel spin-off show. Nothing is set in stone yet, but Taylor Sheridan definitely has some ideas.
