Souls game is well-known for cryptic quests and easy-to-miss items. In Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, one such instance is the Prayer Room Key. First, you actually have to beat an Invader NPC twice so the item can drop. Then, if you haven’t made an area of the Shadow Keep much easier to explore, finding the place to use it can be really tricky. Locating them all alone can be tough, but don’t worry, we are here to help.
Prayer Room Key Location
The Prayer Room Key is obtained after you’ve defeated the Invader NPC Fire Knight Queelign twice. He can be encountered in Belurat Tower Settlement and the Church of Crusade. It doesn’t matter which place you head to first as long as you beat him twice.
The first time you slay him, he will grant you Crusade Insignia x1 and Ember of Messmer x1. For the second time, he will finally drop Flame Skewer Ash of War and Prayer Room Key x1.
Belurat Tower Settlement itself can be found in the Gravesite Plain area. We suggest you fast-travel to the Small Private Altar Site of Grace, then take the exit to your left up the stairs. Take a right, then run past the dual-wielding knight and the knife-wielding mobs in the ruined area. Go straight until you reach the garden with the dead tree in the middle.
The Prayer Room Key owner in Shadow of the Erdtree should spawn around there; keep circling the tree if he doesn’t immediately show up. The place will also be crawling with trash mobs so you might want to clear them out first.
Meanwhile, the Church of Crusade is in Scadu Altus; from the Highroad Cross Site of Grace just head northwest. It shouldn’t take long to reach the building. If you haven’t explored the Land of Shadow too much, then there are two ways to reach the Church. You can either defeat the boss of Castle Ensis first or skip it and go through the Fort of Reprimand.
Where to Use the Prayer Room Key in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree? Explained
Now that you have owned the key, it’s time to head into the Shadow Keep legacy dungeon. You’ll want to enter the dungeon’s Church District to find the Prayer Room that can be unlocked with the Key.
However, you probably find that the District is flooded if you enter from the Shadow Keep’s main entrance. If that’s the case, you must go to the Cathedral of Manus Metyr from the east of the Keep instead. It’s not too far of a trek if you start from the Church of Crusade to be able to use the Prayer Room Key. We recommend you start from there:
- After you’ve acquired the Prayer Room Key, fast-travel to the Highroad Cross Site of Grace.
- Take a detour to the east into the Moorth Ruins.
- Then go northeast passing Bonny Village and Cathedral of Manus Metyr.
- Once you reach the Church District Highroad Site of Grace and Rabbath’s Rise, take a left.
- Keep going forward to the west until you reach the Church District Entrance Site of Grace. You also need to start from here if you want to meet Messmer the Impaler.
- From the Site of Grace, jump down and navigate through the Church rooftops right in front of you. Be careful not to fall off and drown.
- There are going to be quite a lot of crabs and exploding enemies, take them out using range attacks.
- Go over to the other side via one of the roof’s edges. Then follow the path to climb a sloped wall and jump over to a platform.
- Look to your left, ignore the enemies, and jump to another rooftop.
- Keep going straight until you can see large black arches to your left. You’ll want to jump over to the first one and walk to the roof to your right. You might need to run a few steps to increase your jumping range.
- Now look for a hole in the middle of the roof. Make sure you drop down on top of the X-shaped platform below.
- Carefully walk from the platform to the floor across from you. Turn around then jump down to the small path beside the flooded Church. You should find the Prayer Room right in front of you, use the key to open it.
- If you have drained out the water, you can easily get into this area of Church District as the path is pretty straightforward.
Open the Prayer Room with the key and you’ll meet the actual Fire Knight Queelign. Handing him one of the two appropriate Iris items will reward you with different bonuses:
- Iris of Grace: Fire Knight Queelign Spirit Ash summon.
- Iris of Occultation: Queelign’s Greatsword.
Both Irises can be found inside the Shadow Keep. But you don’t have to worry when giving them to Queeglin; showing him either of the Iris will not consume the item. Now, if you’re hesitant whether to drink Saint Trina’s Nectar or not, we also have a guide on that.
