Lupita Nyong’o and Joshua Jackson may be one of the hottest new Hollywood couplings. While they have plenty of fans backing their relationship (and even Jackson’s ex-wife Jodie Turner-Smith has voiced her support with her very mature statement), if you’d like to know more about their coupling, unfortunately, you are fresh out of luck.
“There’s so much of my life that is public. To also make my personal life a part of the public conversation, it’s a liability,” Nyong’o said in a recent interview with People. “What I learned is when things go south, then recovering from that moment takes longer because everybody knows.”
She continued, “So in the name of just being allowed to have relationships that mean a lot to me, and grow from them on my own terms… I want to keep things to myself.”
Why Lupita Nyong’o Doesn’t Want To Discuss Her Relationship Publicly
The actress knows all too well the pressure of living in the public eye, and it’s even more complicated to have a romantic relationship with constant fan attention. This time around, she is taking a different stance from her relationship with Selema Masekela, who she posted on Instagram. In her interview, she said of her approach to public couplings that she “tried it, and I didn’t like it, so I’m going back in.”
The mystery surrounding Nyong’o and Jackson makes their coupling all the more interesting. Fans even get excited to see photos of them holding hands. But what do we really know about their relationship? The couple is reported to have gotten together around December 2023 (not long after Jackson and Turner-Smith announced their decision to divorce after four years of marriage).
“She decided that she is done,” a source told People after Turner-Smith filed for divorce in October 2023. “It turned into an unhealthy marriage that made her unhappy.”
The former couple are reportedly also very different people. “They are on very different paths in life,” the source claimed. “Jodie loves being a mom. She also loves working.”
It looks like the divorce worked in everyone’s best interests.
