This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

The First Descendant, despite being a more casual-friendly looter-shooter, is still full of complicated and poorly explained mechanics. Among those are the Void Shard requirements for certain mission types, and they don’t exactly tell you where to get those. Thankfully, I’ve prepared a guide not just to help you but to also ensure you’ll be swimming in Void Shards in no time. Here’s how to get lots of Void Shards in The First Descendant.

You can get Void Shards almost on any map. Void Shards are rewards from Void Fragment mission types. Here’s a step-by-step process on how to do it:

  1. Open the map, and look for a red or orange icon named “Void Fragment.” Mark it with a waypoint and go there.
  2. To start the Void Fragment mission, you need to damage it with the indicated attribute or damage type.
  3. Change your Descendant to one whose skills match the element/attribute (non-attribute means Ajax, Jaybe, or Valby) of the Void Fragment.
  4. Defeat the enemies that spawn and destroy the Void Fragment to be rewarded with Void Shards.
  5. Note: You’ll fail if you don’t destroy the Void Fragment with the right element on time.

As for the Void Shard rewards, they typically come in several variations, most notably Organic, Inorganic, Monomer, and Polymer in different game areas.

You typically need dozens of different kinds of Void Shards to activate the Void Fusion Reactor missions (Eliminate Enemy Commander). That means you will need to keep running Void Fragment missions repeatedly if you want a consistent way to farm the Void Fusion Reactor missions.

As for why you’d want to do this, Void Fusion Reactor missions tend to reward a lot of Amorphous Materials. You will want to crack these open for rewards. These rewards are either Descendant or weapon blueprints.

That means you’ll be rewarded well by farming a lot of Void Shards in Void Fragments. Here’s an easy way to do it.

Sadly, you can’t destroy Void Fragments using elemental weapon Modules. You need specific Descendants. So either team up with other players for more elemental variations or craft a Descendant of each Attribute (and Non-Attribute). These are the easiest ones to craft:

  • Bunny (Electric)
  • Viessa (Chill)
  • Freyna (Poison)
  • Lepic (Fire)
  • Ajax (Non-Attribute)

Bunny is already covered and Ajax, Lepic, or Viessa depends on your starting class and character but they are easy enough to craft. Freyna will come later on in the main quest. Once you have your specific Descendant, you can keep farming Void Fragment missions indefinitely.
